Officer Tommy Norman poses with fifth-grade student Tyairah and Stephens Elementary staff; he speaks to students at an Honor Assembly about gun violence and drug prevention, fulfilling Tyairah's request.

During its Honor Assembly today, Stephens Elementary had a memorable moment when Officer Tommy Norman from the North Little Rock Police Department made a surprise visit, much to the delight of an unexpecting fifth-grader. Tyairah Cleaver had written a heartfelt letter asking Officer Norman to come to her school to speak about gun violence and drug prevention.

Officer Norman kept his word and surprised her by speaking to the entire school. His powerful message encouraged students to make safe, positive choices while addressing important issues impacting their community.

“This whole story is amazing!” shared Officer Norman on his social media page. “A fifth-grader had the courage to reach out and ask me to come to her school. Today, her wish came true!”

Thank you, Officer Norman, for your dedication to empowering our students (and coming across the river to visit our school)!
