The Little Rock School District is proud to announce that 17 students from Central High School have been named as semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program. The students are among 135 Arkansas high school seniors and 16,000 students nationwide selected as semifinalists.
The students will now compete for nearly $26 million in scholarships, with winners to be announced in four rounds starting next spring. The scholarships are funded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization established in 1955 to honor academic excellence.
More than 1.3 million high school juniors in over 21,000 schools entered this year’s competition. The semifinalists represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and are the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
