Watson Elementary is proud to announce that its Gifted and Talented (GT) program has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Rebsamen Fund, a philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting education and enriching student experiences. This generous funding will support the implementation of the Drone Legends program, an innovative initiative designed to immerse students in cutting-edge STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning.
Through the Drone Legends program, Watson’s GT students will gain hands-on experience operating drones, learning the science behind their flight mechanics, and exploring real-world applications in fields such as technology, engineering, and environmental science. The program emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity, equipping students with 21st-century skills that will serve them well into the future.
The Rebsamen Fund, established to honor the legacy of civic leader Raymond Rebsamen, provides financial support to initiatives that enhance educational opportunities for students across the region. By funding innovative programs like Drone Legends, the Rebsamen Fund helps schools create transformative experiences that inspire the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
This opportunity is a direct result of the dedication and vision of Charlotte Cook-Bomar, whose grant-writing expertise continues to create exceptional learning experiences for Watson’s students. Over the years, Ms. Cook-Bomar has secured multiple grants to enhance educational opportunities, ensuring that Watson’s students have access to resources that expand their horizons and prepare them for success in an ever-changing world.
“We are thrilled to bring Drone Legends to our campus,” said Ms. Cook-Bomar. “This program not only introduces our students to the exciting world of drones but also fosters their problem-solving and collaborative skills. The Rebsamen Fund grant allows us to provide an opportunity that will inspire and challenge our gifted learners.”
Watson Elementary remains committed to fostering innovative learning and is grateful to the Rebsamen Fund for its support in making the Drone Legends program a reality. Stay tuned as our talented students take flight and explore the skies—pioneering new possibilities in STEM!
