Hello, Parents:

As part of the district’s school transition plan, McDermott, Mabelvale, and Western Hills Elementary Schools will close at the end of the 2026–27 school year. Elementary attendance zones have been updated, and you should have received a letter with your student’s new attendance zone school for the 2027–28 school year.

If you want your student to attend their new attendance zone school, you do not need to take any action. Your student has been automatically assigned. If you did not receive a letter, please contact the Student Registration Office.

If you do not want your student to attend their new attendance zone school, you have three options:

1. Request a transfer to Williams Magnet Elementary. 

2. Request a TNT (transfer) to another LRSD elementary school. These requests will be reviewed case by case and are subject to seat availability. Requests will be processed in the order they are received.

3. Apply for a magnet school seat at Gibbs or Forest Heights during the Open Enrollment process. Students affected by school closures will receive priority consideration. Visit the Student Registration website for Open Enrollment information and timelines.

To request a transfer to Williams or a TNT to another LRSD elementary school, please complete the Student School Preference Form in its entirety. The form closes at 11:59 p.m. on November 20, 2026. If you have more than one student that you are requesting for, please indicate that on the form and complete the form for each student.

These options are available only to students currently attending McDermott, Mabelvale, or Western Hills Elementary. You do not need to take any action in the Student Registration system or reapply. New assignment letters will be issued in December.
