Meet Our School Nurses. Shaneika Lewis-Williams, APRN, featured with Chicot Health Clinic logo. Q: What made you want to become a school-based health clinic nurse/APRN? A: School-based health deals a lot with community and ultimately I enjoy being hands-on with families/children; it feels very personable. Q: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened at work? A: There have been several funny moments. The kids have such great personalities. I think the most recent one was when a group of students thought I was the clinic staff’s stayed overnight nurse. They were surprised when I said “have a good weekend” and they said “wait you go home? Yes ma’am we do!” She responds, “I thought y’all stayed here all the time.” We all got a good laugh out of that one. Mondays are when we get back. Q: What is your favorite part about working with children? A: Kids are so honest, free, and loving. They make going to work a daily adventure. Final question: What would your superpower be and why? A: Healing/Laughter – In this field you see and hear so many things that you want to fix instantly. So to be able to provide solutions to some of those issues would be wonderful.

Clinic Provider: Shaneika Lewis-Williams, APRN

Meet Our School Nurses. Christen Clemons, RN. Q: What is your favorite memory from your time as a SBHC nurse? A: The one that sticks out in my mind is when the whole school-based health team had to work with LRSD to get a student to the Arkansas Children’s emergency department. I was walking in the hall and noticed a student drooling uncontrollably, having slurred speech and a weak tone, and saw his tonsils kissing. We were able to launch an emergency protocol! It took a lot of teamwork to get him taken care of that day, and it made me realize how vital this service is to these children. Q: What is your favorite part about working with children? A: I love how sweet and energetic they can be. I understand how for many children the clinic can be a scary place, so I try my best to be warm, friendly, and make the experience as fun as possible. Usually, by the end, I have made a new friend who wants to hang their coloring page on my door and come pull them from class again tomorrow. Final question: What would your superpower be and why? A: Healing Powers, of course!

Clinic Nurse, Christen Clemons, RN
