About Us
Veteran administrator Mr. Clifton Woodley will begin serving as principal in the 2024-25 school year.
Overview
Welcome to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy, where we are reimagining the promise and possibilities of our students. Starting in the 2024-25 school year, students will be immersed in a rigorous academic environment combined with invaluable lessons in leadership, public service, and an introduction to foreign languages.
In collaboration with Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Clinton School of Public Service, we have crafted an enriching curriculum that goes beyond traditional education. Students will gain hands-on experience that fosters a spirit of civic engagement and empowerment.
At Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy, we also understand the importance of equipping students with the tools to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. That's why we offer not one but three second language options—Spanish, American Sign Language, and Mandarin. Through this exciting language opportunity, our students will broaden their horizons and be exposed to cultural diversity.
Join us at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy, where every child is empowered to lead, serve, and communicate fluently in a global society.
History: Built in 1993, the school was originally named Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Interdistrict Magnet Elementary School. During the 2023-24 school year, the Little Rock School District Board of Directors approved a name change to reflect the new school model that incorporated public service and foreign languages. The school was named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The philosophy and expectations of the school are based on Dr. King's principles of life. The school has also adopted the city Park that is adjacent to the playground.
King is located in the heart of downtown Little Rock. From I-630, take exit 2B. We are one block east of Arkansas Children's Hospital and two blocks south of the State Capitol.
