Metro partners with Baptist Health College Little Rock , part of the Baptist Health system, to offer the Practical Nursing (LPN) pathway.
Through a competitive application process, Metro selects a maximum twenty-five (25) students each year to participate in a required PRE-LPN Summer Internship. Students who successfully complete the Summer Internship may advance to a Practical Nursing Cohort and begin taking classes in the high school Fall semester.
Rising high school juniors and seniors may apply. Preference is given to rising sophomores who can complete the full two-year program.
The Practical Nursing (LPN) Pathway includes rigorous coursework and clinical work that prepares students to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and be prepared to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) upon graduating or continue their education to advance to a higher nursing degree.
School counselors can view hand-out for program guidance.
Application to the Practical Nursing Pathway is competitive. We select 25 rising high school juniors or seniors for the PRE-LPN Summer Internship.
To apply, students must meet these minimum qualifications:
Minimum 2.5 GPA
ACT Reading score of 19 or Accuplacer Next Gen Reading score
of 256
The application will require students to upload a copy of their high school transcript and test scores (if not included on transcript). All testing sub-scores must be listed on the score report. For ACT test, this includes Reading, English, Science, and Math. For Accuplacer Next Gen, this includes Reading, Writing, and Math. Minimum scores are required in only Reading.
