The LRSD elementary literacy program uses curricular resources that support the Science of Reading and developing a culture of reading.
Heggerty is used in K-2 to build phonological awareness.
Fundations is taught in K-3 to build foundational skills (phonics, vocabulary, fluency, high frequency word study, and handwriting)
Wit and Wisdom (K-5) is a knowledge-building curriculum that develops language comprehension and writing through complex texts on high interest topics with the long-term aim of improved achievement in literacy for all students.
Family Reading Lists
Reading aloud to your child is the single most beneficial activity to support literacy development. Linked below are recommended titles for students at each grade. These books are not required, but you will definitely enjoy reading them with your child. You can find these books at the local library, booksellers, and online. ENJOY!
