Romine

Romine

This school opened in 1963 and was named to honor Oscar Romine, a teacher in the Little Rock School District who later became Director of Plant Services for the LRSD. Additions were made to the school in 1963, 1966, 1969 and 1976. A new media center was added in 1992, and a new 5-room classroom addition was added in 2002. Romine was established as an interdistrict school in 1991, serving students from all three school districts in Pulaski County.

Records in the LRSD Department of Student Records indicate that, in the time of turmoil during the Central High School desegregation crisis, Oscar Romine had to deal with numerous calls pertaining to vandalism and security. The records further noted that "his death soon after the crisis was largely attributed to the turmoil of the times."
