Parkview

Parkview Magnet High School is Arkansas' first and only complete interdistrict magnet high school, serving students from all three school districts in Pulaski County. It was so named because of its close proximity to Boyle Park and the view of the park from the school's location on a hill. Construction on Parkview began in 1966; the school opened in 1968. The school received a classroom addition in 1976, an auditorium addition in 1980, additional dance studio space in 2000 and a classroom/cafeteria/field house addition in 2004. Portions of the school underwent tornado damage repair in 1982. Parkview became a magnet school in 1987.

In addition to the standard academic curriculum, Parkview provides expanded and specialized studies in the sciences and visual and performing arts. The science magnet program combines high-tech specialty science courses with a magnet curriculum that will prepare students for an undergraduate, pre-professional or technical major in the areas of medicine and health. Students enrolled in the fine arts program select an area of emphasis from the arts (dance, drama, instrumental music, vocal music or visual art) and follow an expanded curriculum in their specialized area of study. Parkview has been rated the number-one high school in Pulaski County by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette; ranked in the top 1 percent of national magnet programs and designated Magnet School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of Merit Committee; received the National Magnet School of Merit Award as conferred by the Magnet Schools of America; nominated as one of America's Best Schools in a program sponsored by Redbook; named one of the Best High Schools in the State by the readers of Arkansas Times; and selected as a Blue Ribbon School for excellence and equity in education for all students.
