This school opened in 1954 and closed at the end of the 1966-67 school year. It is named for Confederate General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson (1824 -1863).

Thomas Jonathan Jackson attended West Point and taught at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington before riding off to join the Civil War in April 1861. Following the first battle of Manassas, Jackson became widely known by the nickname "Stonewall;" his demeanor inspired General Bernard Bee, a friend from Jackson's years at West Point, to shout to his troops: "Look, there stands Jackson like a stone wall." Jackson earned lasting fame for his leadership of the Confederate forces, especially during the Valley campaign of 1862. He died in May 1863 as a result of wounds received at Chancellorsville. His body was returned to his home in Lexington for burial.
