School no longer in operation

Badgett Elementary originally was part of the Pulaski County Special School District; it was annexed by the Little Rock School District in 1987. The current building opened in 1964. It is unknown when the original school was built, though one student mentioned a plaque indicating 1880 as the building date. Located in the Fourche Dam community, the school originally was named the Earl Frazier School after its first principal. In 1926, the school was remodeled and renamed Badgett Elementary after the Badgett Township, where it is located. In 1936 the faculty consisted of three teachers and the principal. The student population grew to its peak of about 300 in the early 1960s. The current building was completed in 1964 with additions in 1965, 1966 and 1971. Badgett ceased operation as a school at the end of the 2001-02 year.

After the school closed in 2002, it became the temporary home of Wakefield Elementary after that school accidentally was destroyed by fire in 2002 during renovations. It next housed students and staff from Mitchell Academy during the 2004-05 school year. Badgett was again put to use in the 2005-06 school year as students and staff from Cloverdale Elementary moved in. After the Board of Directors voted to permanently close Cloverdale Elementary in the fall of 2006, the Badgett building once again lay empty until the Felder Alternative Learning Academy took up residence at the beginning of the 2006-07 school year. Felder previously had been housed in a building on Geyer Springs Road in Southwest Little Rock.
