Welcome to Elementary Education
The Elementary Education Department is responsible for the smooth operation of all elementary schools. There are 31 school campuses that serve about 13,000 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades. The Department organizes quality and relevant training and professional development for elementary principals.
*Darian Smith has 23 years of experience in the field of education. During those 23 years, Mr. Smith has served as a classroom teacher, after-school site director, assistant principal and principal. Mr. Smith believes that when you discover your 'Why', you will understand your 'Purpose'.
*Ms. Charlotte Washington has 33 years of experience in the Little Rock School District. She has served all of those years as an Executive Assistant in the Elementary and Secondary Departments.
Purpose and Mission
The Elementary Education Department works with the Superintendent, Executive Directors and School Improvement Specialists to provide additional resources to principals and schools in an effort to increase student achievement. During the 2010 school year, 30 elementary schools met Average Year Progress (AYP). The Department also facilitates elementary after-school and summer programs.
