Proposed Capital Improvements Using Second-Lien Loans

June 23, 2017 - The Little Rock School District plans to move forward on the construction of a new high school located in southwest Little Rock, off Mabelvale Pike Road and Richsmith Lane. The District will utilize second lien bond financing that will generate $90 million in construction funds. The District plans to use $55-60 million of these funds to assist in the construction of the new high school. The remaining funds will be designated for capital improvements, including roofs, HVAC upgrades, and security enhancements. BACK TO SCHOOL TIME! The new 2017-2018 LRSD district-wide Student Calendar has been released for the new school year. Students, parents, staff and community will be able to find information for events occurring throughout the district this year.

The new calendar is AVAILABLE NOW as a download/printable PDF file on LRSD.org, and the wall calendar version will soon be available at your child’s school. Check back often for updated calendar info in the online PDF-version throughout the year, which will be updated as necessary.

In addition to event dates and school contact information, the calendar also contains valuable information about the following subject areas: CARE Program, Early Childhood Education, School Schedules, Child Nutrition, Testing and Evaluation, Attendance, Safety and Security, Transportation, Snow Days, Student Health, Graduation Requirements, Parent/Family & Community Engagement, Student Registration, Community Advisory Board, and LRSD’s Blackboard APP.

This year we are featuring student artwork from the 2017 LRSD Artistry in the Rock Exhibition on the front and back covers, with plans to solicit entries for the 2018-19 version. Get creative and prepare your ideas for next year’s artwork!

June 19, 2017 - Camp Can Do, Little Rock School District's unique summer program serving students identified as English Learners or students with limited English proficiency, celebrated its 10th year anniversary with a community carnival at two sites:  Chicot and Brady elementary schools!

LRCH Grad Earns Language Scholarship to Study Abroad

Photo of Karina BaoShe's the former U.S. Brain Bee Champ, earned a perfect score on the ACT, and now Karina Bao can add another distinction to her credit - recipient of the prestigious National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI -Y) scholarship.  This latest feat will allow the 2017 Little Rock Central High graduate to study Arabic in Morocco this summer.  She is among approximately 600 students nationally, who will recieve the highly competitive scholarship to study in a foreign country.

Thanks to an impressive Class of 2017, Little Rock School District graduates earned more than $24 million in scholarships to attend colleges and unverisities at home and across the country.  The nearly 1,500 seniors in the 2017 class represent all five district high schools.  Congratulations, graduates!

Summer Break Just Around the Corner - Tuesday, May 30 - Last Day for Students

Tuesday, May 30, will be the last day of school for students.  The last day for teachers is Wednesday, May 31. 

Check-in for high schools and remaining K-8 students will be July 27-28.

Reminder to High School Parents - Check Dismissal Times Next Week

Attention High School Parents:

Please be advised that LRSD will adhere to semester testing that is posted on the calendar – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursay and Friday of next week. 

High schools will have established dismissal times.  Check with your child’s high school if you have any questions.

With college and career opportunities looming, LRSD seniors are preparing for their final high school assignment... graduation! LRSD baccalaureate exercises will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017; graduation exercises begin Tuesday evening, May 16 for Accelerated Learning Center students and will continue May 23-25, 2017 for traditional high school students. The schedule for ceremonies is listed in the charts below.
